1 yearThe EU makes the rules for who can join the EU. If only they knew how to change the rules the EU makes for who can join the EU…

1 yearRight! French Guiana is part of the EU why not Canada. These politicians are not being consistent even by their current rules.

France is part of the EU so all parts of France can be part of the EU. It’s not like French Guiana is a EU member on its own.
Cyprus on the other hand is in Asia and Malta is in Africa. So the EU is willing to push the definition of Europe a bit, but Canada would be a big stretch.
I empathize with Canadians but the EU can’t fall on the trap of trying to become the World Government, or worst, the Global White People Federation.

1 yearthe word “continent” is very ill-defined in this case, and actually has nothing at all to do with plate tectonics

1 yearI’m not reading it being phrased as unequivocal as the title implies.
Though I think the idea that Canada would really join is a bit ridiculous.

Only European states can apply for EU membership.
The definition of a “European state” could be interpreted to include Canada. For example:
European State
A sovereign nation whose core cultural, political, legal, and social institutions are fundamentally shaped by European historical experiences and intellectual traditions.

As Europeans, we have a duty to learn the Canadian national anthem and sing it to the heavens! Let our collective voice move the continents themselves!
