Used the motherboard from a broken steamdeck to make mini PC. $100 and an anbernic for the motherboard (and battery and shell).

This is super neat even though it’s basically just running the main board plugged into peripherals - I already knew the main board was pretty small but it’s still surprising seeing it sitting on a table.
Makes me wonder what you could do with a case the size of a wii (or even a mini wii). Plenty of space for cooling, a 2.5" SSD bay, and I’m sure you could fit lots of other goodies in it too.

2 yearsYou know about the Kawaii? A Wii that can fit on your keyring! https://bitbuilt.net/forums/index.php?threads/kawaii.6474/

It’s kind of vague, but presumably it supports sd cards and/or a USB drive. The Wii is pretty easy to mod for digital “backups” from what I recall, and there were plenty of official digitally supported games (although I don’t think that still works today).

Yeah that makes sense. Do you know if there’s any more info about these projects? I’d love to know how they actually work under the covers but this post definitely seems aimed at people who already know a lot about the project!

No, that’s the first I’ve heard of it too. That forum looks to be pretty active so maybe some insight can be gained there.

Can’t wait for Valve to release SteamBox. Small PC that could be connected to TV. Finally I could replace my Xbox.

You’ll probably have to wait a while! They made a statement earlier in the year about wanting to release SteamOS3 just for handhelds rather than every PC, so I get the impression that they want to try and perfect one thing before expanding, rather than trying to rush out a load of ideas before they’re ready.
