Huawei lobbyists barred temporarily from the European Parliament

Friendly reminder that the European Parliament lifted restrictions on MEPs, allowing them to meet Chinese officials again (the restrictions were introduced two years ago over human rights abuses in East Turkistan, a region which is referred to as Xinjiang by the Chinese regime). Maybe it’s time to correct this?

East Turkistan, a region which is referred to as Xinjiang by the Chinese regime

The term was coined in the 19th century by Russian Turkologists, including Nikita Bichurin, who intended the name to replace the common Western term for the region, “Chinese Turkestan”, which referred to the Tarim Basin in Southern Xinjiang or Xinjiang as a whole during the Qing dynasty.
