Let’s see if Trump reverts to his old position again in a couple of days.
I don’t trust anything Trump says, he also said to multiple major European leaders, that he would sanction Russia if they didn’t agree to a ceasefire.
A week has gone by, and as usual Trump has done nothing to help Ukraine.- TachyonTele@lemm.eeEnglish1 year
Trump will never directly help Ukraine. He simply won’t. Best he’ll do is stop helping Putin. Even that’s a far off “if”.

“There are no longer any range restrictions on weapons delivered to Ukraine – neither by the British, nor by the French, nor by us, nor by the Americans,”
- Monument@lemmy.sdf.orgEnglish1 year
I dug a bit deeper still after the above comment, and my additional findings ostensibly seem to contradict your sentiments, but actually lend credence to them.
Quoting myself (roughly) -
It looks like they ran out of ATACMS in March and the U.S. has been sending the significantly less effective GLSDB as a replacement.
- TachyonTele@lemm.eeEnglish1 year
Seems like those articles just highlight how much of a test bed Ukraine is for weapons manufacturers more than anything to do with policy. But i could be misreading it, it’s early for me.
- Ledericas@lemm.eeEnglish1 year
depends on how scared of putin, trump is from time to time. many times trumps was ghostly white after “talking” to putin, when something goes bad for putin.
- barneypiccolo@lemm.eeEnglish1 year
It’s all an act. Putin let him know that he’s about to start bombing cities, and told HitlerPig to verbally condemn it, but do nothing else. It gives him the ability to say that he’s not in Putin’s pocket, after all, he condemned the Ukrainian bombing.
Talk is cheap, especially Political talk, and ESPECIALLY HitlerPig talk.
- psychothumbs@lemmy.worldEnglish1 year
The best case scenario is that Trump really was such a moron as to believe Putin wanted peace and now feels betrayed and does a 180 on Ukraine policy. Much more likely he will stay the course on screwing Ukraine.
- ℍ𝕂-𝟞𝟝@sopuli.xyzEnglish1 year
I think it’s less of “Putin wanted peace”, but that “Putin is amenable to peace if he gets everything he wants”, which might have even been true before the Russian economy got so wrecked that stopping the war would crash it.

1 yearI admire the take that Trump is able to realize stuff.
But I’m not very hopefull
- Doomsider@lemmy.worldEnglish1 year
It is just time to play both sides and make it out like DT is reasonable. He has done nothing to reign in Russia and I highly doubt he would do anything but a symbolic gesture.
This is just a White House propaganda piece. Make people doubt his allegiance to Russia. A big waste of our time, but that appears to be the point.
- frezik@midwest.socialEnglish1 year
Propaganda is useful. It might be wrong, but there is a specific reason they’re saying it.
- 1 year
Is he talking about the actual US President Donald Trump?
I don’t think he has the mental capacity to realize anything
- 1 year
this is strategic. By appealing to his ego, he can tell trump that putin has been lying, while calling trump smart for realizing it instead of calling him gullible for not realizing it.
- 1 year
Ah, and he won’t be able to realize that either.
But I have a feeling when more countries with well respected leaders say the same thing, and state the same thing to appeal to his ego, it will further cement the idea in Trump’s mind, that Putin “cheated him”.
I don’t have high expectations, but let’s see how it plays out.

But to be clear, if something else were to remove Trump from being the problem I wouldn’t oppose that either.
- blattrules@lemmy.worldEnglish1 year
Yeah, but Zelenskyy didn’t wear a suit or thank trump himself publicly for the hundredth time, so I’m sure trump is still team Putin.
- 1 year
Trump is such a fucking gullible, demented moron. The only people dumber than him are the people that voted for him.

Please.
The sole redeeming factor about Trump is being extremely unpredictable. He is a quintessentially ignorant American in that way. No one can reliably control him, he will flip-flop between diametrically opposed positions at will.
Hopefully chaos impersonated will turn on Putin for a while. Hell, if Trump continues to ignore legal precedent he may be able to harm Russia more than Biden ever did.

1 yearThe sole redeeming factor
yeah I really don’t see this as a redeeming factor but I don’t disagree with the overall premise
- 1 year
Fair, “positive aspect” would’ve been significantly better wording. There’s nothing Trump can do to redeem himself unless he does an inverse John Fetterman.
- taladar@sh.itjust.worksEnglish1 year
if Trump continues to ignore legal precedent
Can you really be said to ignore something if you are totally ignorant of its existence?
- atzanteol@sh.itjust.worksEnglish1 year
French President Emmanuel Macron believes US President Donald Trump has finally realised that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has been deceiving him.
Oh my no… The cognitive dissonance will take over. Trump will be back to blaming Ukraine and talking about how wonderful Putin is again in short order
- 1 year
I kinda think it’s a game. Putin told trump to say it so they can act like they’re not in bed together
