                Why go through so many countries to reach Iran instead of going through Afghanistan?

                    Afghanistan, Tajikistan and most of Kyrgyzstan are mountainous. The route is going just north of this range.

                          They’ve been thrown out since 2020.

                              And 5 years is not nearly enough time for the governance in Afghanistan to stabilize to the point where such large scale projects can even start being discussed let alone actually be completed.
