    Trump II is such a strong external shock that the idea of the populous center party in proportional representation is becoming weirder and weirder (German example: How can Söder or Linnemann and Merkel or Günther exist in the same political party?).

    • Merkel was definitely one of the leftmost (or maybe “moderate”) mainstream Union politicians which arguably helped her to stay in office for 16 years

  • Oh yeah, the Greek debt crisis moved her to tears so much she had to let Schäuble block any actual solutions and force the country into destructive austerity.
