I was told that the massive and exorbitantly expensive air strikes solved this problem.

after a decade of the US helping Saudis turn Yemen into a parking lot, they can strike Israel and control the red sea.
makes me wonder what they fuck where they bombing that Yemen can still fight?
- Saleh@feddit.orgEnglish10 months
Civilian infrastructure, specifically farms, to facilitate genocide by hunger, weddings, schools, hospitals, ports…
- 🍉 Albert 🍉@lemmy.worldEnglish10 months
i wonder if US foreign policy is doing this with the explicit intent to promote anti American terrorist groups, to ensure there’s always a target to promote the military industrial complex.
not sure if it’s a conspiracy, because they are already doing it, and that is the outcome, the only tin foil hat part is their intent

The Houthis say that any Israel-linked ship is a target,[90][87][88] including US and UK warships, but they have also attacked the ships of many nations with no connection to Israel.[91][92] From October 2023 to March 2024, the Houthis attacked more than 60 vessels in the Red Sea.
edit: the fact that people are snarling at actual, neutral reporting of factual events should be the clue-in that you’re all literally doing the exact same thing we despise from the right, letting feelings cloud our judgement about who our real allies are or are not. Use your fucking heads you hysterical children.
I am fully convinced that most of you are reflexively reacting because your favorite political streamer said something good about Houthis at some point and you’re not even sure why or what the nuance is.
- 10 months
They didn’t attack before 7 of october and didn’t attack during the ceasefire. End the genocide
- REDACTED@infosec.pubEnglish11 months
The Houthis warned Philippines that they will attack their ships? When did that happen, or are you full of shit as usual? They are often shooting ships indiscrimately, there were even cases of them hitting aid going to gaza or their allies ships. They literally said that they’re terrorizing international shipping canal to show solidarity with hamas, backed by Russian and Iranian rockets.
- Madison420@lemmy.worldEnglish11 months
That’s a blockade, yeah. Israel has been doing that on and off to Palestine for like 40 years.
- REDACTED@infosec.pubEnglish10 months
Israel has been blocking international shipping lane/sea? Weird, I thought they only blocked a port without affecting unrelated countries.
- Saleh@feddit.orgEnglish10 months
Israel has been attacking any ship that aimed for Gaza. The latest case they abducted a dozen Civilians in international waters. before they bombed a civilian ship bound to bring food to Gaza off the coast of Malta.
So yes, Israel has been attacking targets in international water quite recently.
- REDACTED@infosec.pubEnglish10 months
So internationally that makes them terrorists. What’s bizzare to me is how hard it is for lemmy to say the same thing about houthis
- BakerBagel@midwest.socialEnglish11 months
I warned my neighbor that i would shoot him if he tried to pick my back door one more time. He warned me that he would kill my wife. Clearly we are both the same

Did you warn your mailman not to drop off mail at your criminal neighbor’s house or you would blow up his truck?
- 3abas@lemmy.worldEnglish11 months
No, but I did warn my mailman not to deliver the ammo to my neighbor who has already killed my uncle’s entire family and is promising to murder my wife next.
We can play this game forever. The reaction to genocide isn’t worse than genocide.
- 11 months
Houthis is an armed political and religious movement not an ethnic group within Yemen. Yes, it’s ok to bomb them
- 11 months
I feel sorry for them. The genocide should end it will save everybody lives. The houthis didn’t attack any ship during the cease fire so why the countries that have the obligation to do the best to stop it isn’t doing all they can?
- REDACTED@infosec.pubEnglish11 months
How are you this ignorant? The houthi basically started as a civil war in Yemen, not some moral high ground against Israel.
- REDACTED@infosec.pubEnglish11 months
Man, just imagine doing your job, living at the other side of the world, spending months on sea to bring back some money for your family, and then some cunts just kill you because of a conflict you might not even know exists
- 3abas@lemmy.worldEnglish11 months
Man, imagine watching a live steamed genocide for two years and when a few people get hurt because they’re working on a ship that supports the genocide, that’s when you feel empathy.
- lepinkainen@lemmy.worldEnglish11 months
Is there a master list of ships that support genocide, so that I don’t end up on one?
- Saleh@feddit.orgEnglish10 months
If the port you are bound for is one of the following, you should not be on that ship to not become complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity:

They attack any ships they have the opportunity to. The “supporting genocide” nonsense is cover for their useful idiots.

They never attacked before the war and not during the cease fire . You are the idiot

What a weird comment
EDIT: About his assumption that I don’t feel empathy towards people. Out of the blue and random
- Madison420@lemmy.worldEnglish11 months
You can’t transit the area and not know. I’m pretty sure theres been a maritime advisement for like a decade generally and for Liberia there’s been a specific warning provided to relevant shipping companies and captains. It would be like sailing the coast of Somalia and saying you didn’t know theres a pirate issue.
- 10 months
“A conflict you might not even know exists” see that’s just bullshit. Not only is Israel’s genocide reported heavily across the globe, if you run a shipping company, it is your responsibility to at least be somewhat aware of the regional conflicts in the area you transport goods to and from. Also, if there’s a military blockade threatening all vessels who enter a port, it is also your responsibility to not put your employees in danger by trying to bypass that blockade with no assurances of safety. I would hold the owners of this vessel/company accountable for prioritizing profit and getting these people killed.
- BakerBagel@midwest.socialEnglish11 months
Sailoring has always been a dangerous job. The past 50 years os the exemption, not the rule.

I would be nice if people broadly opposed bombing ANYONE but even here, a site that appeals largely to self-proclaimed leftists and progressives like this is just oozing with as much bloodlust as you would see from the worst people we condemn.
This bloodlust for the deaths of others is why we have a genocide raging to begin with. Why can’t we all be better and be consistent.
- REDACTED@infosec.pubEnglish10 months
Lol don’t bother. Each time I say something similar (ie. everyone should calm the f down), I get downvoted into oblivion. What’s even more ironic is that I got downvoted for saying we don’t need another genocide.
mlg@lemmy.worldEnglish
11 monthsA military enforced trade blockade is too much for some people to handle who think battling a state responsible for genocide can be done without violence… which is exactly what a military specializes in.
Of course now that the US has gone home, no one is there to intercept all the antiship missiles, so any vessel aiming for Israel should really take the alternative route.
- 10 months
The part where this goes off the rails in the public discourse is that people are broadly absolutely fucking STUCK in linear, binary thinking, I can list a thousand examples of this in every-day-life and it’s a weakness that governments exploit daily. For some reason our species can live comfortably in the cognitive dissonance about things like faith and reason existing alongside each other, but cannot fathom the idea that bad people can fight other bad people and they’re both bad. Or that people lie in ways that appeal to your own feelings to try to get public sympathy behind their own agenda.

They’re pirates. If the genocide stopped tomorrow, they would still be fighting for their own political agendas and of course the wealth onboard these giant ships full of goods, including food, aid and other vital supplies destined for countries unrelated to Israel, Yemen or Palestine.
- Samskara@sh.itjust.worksEnglish10 months
The Houthis have done so many crimes towards their own civilians, including denial of humanitarian aid. Just because they literally have written „Death to Israel. A curse upon the Jews.“ on their flag and act accordingly makes them good guys in some people’s eyes.
When Arabs kill Arabs Western leftists don’t pay attention.
in the public discourse is that people are broadly absolutely fucking STUCK in linear, binary thinking
Polarisation has empowered the most radical and extreme voices. Nuance is punished harshly and immediately by campists. Facts and truth matter less and less regardless of political affiliation.

- SkyezOpen@lemmy.worldEnglish10 months
Wait so the targeted ship wasn’t even going to Israel? Wasn’t that the whole point of the blockade, not just attacking anyone vaguely related to Israel?

From this BBC article: “It is the second vessel the Houthis have sunk in a week, after the group on Sunday launched missiles and drones at another Liberian-flagged, Greek-operated cargo ship, Magic Seas, which they claimed “belong[ed] to a company that violated the entry ban to the ports of occupied Palestine”…The group has said it is acting in support of the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and have claimed - often falsely - that they are targeting ships only linked to Israel”.
From The Times of Israel: “Both the Eternity C and Magic Seas were part of commercial fleets whose sister vessels have made calls to Israeli ports over the past year.”

The number of people in this thread defending this shitstain terrorist organization is unreal.
You do realize you can be anti-Israel without supporting literal terrorists?
- 10 months
That’s a good idea, let’s oppose Israel but also oppose all the forces that are actually fighting it because they are scary Muslims who use violence which is a no-no. We should instead write a stern letter that genocide is bad but we will not do anything effective to stop it. That should work!
- 10 months
Can we all just agree that attacking and killing civilians is bad, regardless of who is doing it? I wouldn’t expect that to be too much.
Tbh, killing military personnel isn’t exactly “good” either if the destroying equipment, vehicles, and structures is enough to achieve military objectives.
