Tbf, sometimes I’m right there with em, I’m not above drunk ordering some dominos, or on the rare occasion I go to a mall I may hit the Sbarro (but the fake Chinese food wins every time, let’s be real), but it’s literally the same thing just more fresh and made to better specs! It’s not even “real tacos V taco bell,” it’s such a close approximation of the “real” thing but lacking soul, whereas taco bell is so far from real tacos that it’d be more understandable to prefer the fake version. Like even Olive Garden V real italian I get, because it’s americanized enough, but Sbarro is not far enough removed from real pizza as to necessitate this phenomenon.

I could understand getting Sbarro in Chicago, for those averse to deep dish, because it’s a whole different style. I could understand some Chicago chain in NYC, for those who want deep dish. I could even understand Jets “detroit” style, because that’s different too, but Sbarro in NYC is literally just “worse and more expensive version of the same thing you could have got in 20 different shops on your way here.”

But fake NY pizza in NY? Just go to literally any local. It’s not like a Sbarro in Kandahar, that I’d get, but this still makes no sense.

Shortwave still can reach spies in foreign countries with their numbers stations now, and then there’s VHF/UHF at home etc. Snail mail still exists, so does ol’ fashioned landlines for communication at least internally even if they cut undersea telcom cables, hell I’m pretty sure CDMA would still be running, this sets us back to like 1990 at most, especially if we take this threat seriously and start implementing non-internet based (or sat internet) fallbacks just in case standard comms go down for a while until a new cable can be lain.

Like don’t get me wrong, we’d definitely feel the effects, but this isn’t some kind of world dominating shit we’re talking about here, it’s just pretty inconvenient, especially if we already have alts in place as fallbacks so we don’t have to scramble to set them up.

I’m not the one shifting the focus, “always men” is. I’d be all about it if the sign simply said “Justice for Gisèle Pelicot” or something. She chose to make the sign, and the website chose to prominently feature it, be mad at them. While true, if people are getting locked up for what you and I agree is not, there is functionally no difference between “is and gets locked up” and “isn’t but still gets locked up.” See what I mean? Saying is one thing, legal action is another. If one can limit speech, “one” being the ruling class/party, then anything they decide to limit can therefore be legally limited and they can turn it like the above article. If the ruling class is instead limited themselves in their abilty to limit speech, yes nazis can say “jews bad because nonsense,” and that sucks, but then you can also say “israel bad because genocide,” even if the ruling class does not want you to.

Case in point, has anyone been arrested for this in America yet? Not that I’m aware of. And that isn’t a bad thing.

And this is an example of why speech should not be criminalized, even hate speech, unfortunately. Perceptions of what counts as hate speech are subject to change with geopolitical issues that may or may not actually make said speech “hate speech.” Today the nazis are antisemites, tomorrow any critic of Isreal’s reaction to Hamas’ terrorism in Oct is too. You don’t have to like what they (hypothetical people) say but freedom of speech is important, short of actual calls to (violent) action themselves words should not be punishable by legal action. Fight them with your words, show others your way is better, but remember what you do to others can easily be turned back on you in short order.
