In the early aughts, I asked my high school history teacher where he thought was the likeliest place for a global conflict to start. His answer was Kashmir.

This is state-sponsored terrorism. Absolutely despicably evil that anyone would wake up one day and think to themself “what should I do today….oh I know, let’s go traumatize some Palestinian kids by kidnapping and torturing them.” What the fuck.
What sets this government apart is the level of support and encouragement it provides to settlers, whether through supplying them with weapons or funding the creation of new outposts. This backing has enabled and emboldened settlers to carry out attacks on Palestinians, with the aim of displacing communities and annexing their land.

Wow. That’s some seriously evil bullshit.

Goldberg assumed it was fake, but he waited for the attacks to happen for confirmation, which they did. Perhaps people are a bit smarter than you think.
I did believe that I was the target of a disinformation campaign. And so when I got the text at 11:44 a.m. saying that at 1:30 p.m. bombs will start falling in Yemen, I thought to myself, ‘Well, if there is actually an American attack at 1:30 p.m., then I’ll know that that this that the Signal chat is real and I have to I have to consider my next steps.’ "

I do everything I can, with the resources I have available to me. I vote, protest, organize, regularly call my reps, donate to independent media, and engage with all my friends and family on the issues whenever possible. What else, specifically, do you suggest?

I’ve been paying close attention. I think it’s important to focus on the individual cases as they happen, acknowledge who is harmed, and not just move on to the next thing. Trump wants us frenzied and confused so we can’t focus on anything, let alone what’s coming next.
As for what I do about it, I call my representatives about each individual issue separately, so their logs show constituent interest on a variety of issues. I attend protests and engage with my local government, I volunteer, organize, and donate, and I financially support independent media outlets. Thanks for asking.

I’m just some American dude on the internet, but strategically speaking, turning on one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, a country that’s also one of our closest allies, doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. We lose their trust by betraying them, and also lose their cooperation on one of the things they do way better than us? Seems like it hurts everybody.

It’s so interesting to think about how certain word choices become the norm. These were Palestinian hostages taken by Israel. The vast majority of Palestinians in Israeli detention are there without being charged for any kind of crime. They were picked up off the street and thrown in a cell to be tortured, starved, and sexually assaulted, without even a suspicion of having done anything other than being Palestinian. They are hostages. This was a hostage swap.

Bernie has compromised on some issues, like a good politician should. Nearly everybody else has compromised their integrity and the offices they hold with corrupt behavior. There’s a huge difference.
Effective politics/government doesn’t exist without compromise. America was founded on compromises, some of which were morally reprehensible, some of which were just about the structure of the nation and its government. A huge caveat of course, is that compromise only works when there are at least two groups equally willing to concede something big enough to reach a resolution.
Without the ability to compromise all we’re left with is tyranny.

It’s true she draws from other sources, but it’s an aggregation vs. Drop Site’s original reporting. I always prefer the original reporting over an extra layer of remixing, but I probably overreacted.

Here is the original Drop Site News article. There’s no reason to circumvent the actual source.

This is the part the American press can’t seem to learn. They’ve appeased and both-sided these dangerously bigoted fools for so long that they’re incapable of actually changing their coverage strategy.
“They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this alignment. It has been a steady stream of signaling to rightwing extremists that they have an ally now in the White House.”
We all have eyes, it’s the job of the press to tell us what we’re seeing and why, not tell us we didn’t see what we all know we saw. Cover Nazis like they’re Nazis.

I was thinking, don’t I remember something about UN workers sexually assaulting a bunch of Haitians during their last peacekeeping mission? Yup, it’s right there in the article. Appalling.
The UN mission in Haiti was criticized for its role in perpetuating the political and economic structures that favored the Haitian elite and foreign investors while neglecting to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and inequality in the country. The UN’s 2004-2017 failed peacekeeping mission was also marred by allegations of sexual assault by its troops and staffers. Furthermore, peacekeepers from Nepal were blamed for introducing cholera into Haiti’s largest river in October 2010, resulting in the death of over 10,000 Haitian people. Although the UN has acknowledged its role in the epidemic and the lack of sufficient effort to combat it, it has not explicitly admitted to introducing the disease.
There was nothing racist about this comment. The West has provided billions of dollars of unconditional support to the racist, Islamophobic, child-killing, amoral, death-obsessed state of Israel. And I’m a Jew, in case you were considering tossing the antisemitism card.
If you need cold hard numbers, 82% of the Israeli public supports the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
The West’s behavior can of course be accurately described as colonial, neocolonial, or imperialist. Choose whatever murderous exploitative term you want, but please wake up and see the world for what it is. The West has directly supported the murder of countless people.
