  • They dont know wtf they are going to cause. We are the highway connecting the sea with europe, connecting north east europe with south west ( netherlands, germany and france together ). Poland? Ye that passes us. Spain, bet your arse. Germany? Netherlands?
    Yuuuuppp.

Our roads are already filled to a god damn brim, if you stop everyone for border controls they are insane. Even more road rage and traffic jams, nice!
And yes, our airplanes have border controls…

  • Ok, lets go down the line of things happening here.
You kill data mining, great, awesome! You have my support!
Oh, but suddenly, worldwide, hundred of thousands of job fall. Data brokers fall first. Their servers drop and the thousands of project managers, database administrators, developers, product managers and all in between get without a job.
Ok but fine, maybe they can find a new job! Positive thinking! It is a big world after all!

Oh, but the data brokers are gone, so now analysists cant tell what people will like, what they dont, what works and doesnt. Whoops. But hey, nothing bad those are gone! Maybe they can find jobs down town in the factory that doesnt exists or uses robots.

No analysists, so maybe trying to make that one show or product you like doesnt sound that attractive to produce anymore. Hey, who knows who’ll buy it right? Maybe that product you like will make a few wrong guesses and die out. But nothing bad, another company will fill the hole left behind by dieing companies!

Now scientists ( im including computer scientists here ) cant access data at large anymore either because data brokers are forbidden in proxy. Shit, how are we going to get our data about diseases now. From a limited set? Okidoki! Our research says 90% of tested people get cancer from drinking water. Water is deadly now guys! Our data of 10 people said it was!
How do we process patient data to find problems before hand, easy we dont lawl. Who needs that stuff anyway!

Oh hey, since nobody is allowed to collect and sell data anymore, those few sites you use will die. They cant maintain the costs of research & development nor the hosting. So they have to paywall their site or close the doors, like the good old days with newspapers, pubs, cafe’s and television! Those were the days! But i like to pay for quality stuff so they can live! Ok, now lets do that for every site you visit and use in your day-to-day life!

Look, you get the picture i hope. I hate data collecting and have systems in check to hopefully poison the well myself. But your shortsighted approach is not the solution. The world is a hell a lot more complex than that.
Sources to this line of thinking: me, who works in healthcare, my brother working as a project manager in a data company to use in researches, and my other brother working as cto in electricity facilities.

  • Oh i know, and youre 100% right and on the money. Also, fyi, nuclear falls under renewables, but your point still stands.
The whole thing is to avoid future problem and create future profits ( as youll need less fuel to create the same power and can reuse the current nuclear waste ). Thats a general problem with (belgian?) politics: now matters, next week is next weeks problem.

Yes it costa billions up front, and i have no fucking idea where that money could come from, but it can save so much more in the long run…
… And would be safer while at it (not that current nuclear isnt safe but it’d be safer )

  • … You know much it costs to get a house right? You do realise that for a decent house in my neighbourhood i had to pay 160k outright and bank would pay the other half. I do not have 160k just lying around you know. And with current average income that would still take 4 years of working if you didnt spend a dime of your income.

I repeat, you are disconnected from reality

Ye no, thats not how it works. You have been too caged about how towards the rest of the country is, which is what antwerp just is. You have no idea what poor is and what the cost of living is for average paycheck IF you want to buy something like a house or car. I assume mommy and daddy helped you buy a car? Or always got a company car?
Got a house that mommy and daddy helped pay for so you could actually pay for the loan and have the capital to start the loan?

Oh, hey, and maybe youve always lived with a partner too, which also makes it very much doable since 3/4th the income is good to save to do whatever with.

  • No worries, most of us saw this coming when the asshat got to be pm. The asshat is all talk and no actions, which is why the city he is major of ( antwerp ) has such much issues with the drugs mafia after they got kicked out of rotterdam ( the netherlands ). It made his city the ship dock for european drugs cartels as its the second largest dock in the neighbourhood.

Ive hated the fucker for years, yet here we are.

The problem is he’s the leader of the nva, the centre right party and they have been shouting right shit for years. And now that the political scene in europe is getting more right with every election, he finally got to power. Instantly i saw that what expected was true: all talk, but no actions. He said for years “look at the new pm, he cant even get an agreement who gets what power. If i was in power…”

Ye, it took him nearly a year too lawl
