My understanding was that they weren’t constructing nukes per se, just getting the capabilities to do so ready to go so that if that fatwa is lifted, they can just do the final construction and be armed, rather than starting the process from scratch at that point. Is there new evidence that this isn’t the case?

This seems great, and I wish governments would do this just in general for a wider range of products, to be honest. If they aren’t doing something to add value, resellers like that deserve what they get.

Well, of course not. If ‘great’ was the average, it wouldn’t be great anymore - it’d just be average.

Technology advances quickly and lawmaking advances slowly. 50 years ago, this wouldn’t have been nearly as much of a problem, because the flow of information would be a lot slower, and fewer people would be exposed to these things. Today, Trump posts something hate-filled on the internet and his followers everywhere in the country see it immediately. Same goes for any other person with social media influence. If Elon Musk posts something provably false, tens of millions of people consume it. A hundred people can post the proof that it’s false within minutes, and a fraction of those people will see it and even fewer will care.

The problem isn’t the speech, the problem is the platform they’re given.

It’s got to be one of:

• He’s just stupid. Maybe his ego requires him to stay in the spotlight, and with Elon getting a lot of media attention, he feels he has to do absurd shit just to get attention. Like a toddler throwing a fit when their parents are talking to other adults.
• He’s actively trying to sabotage the country, probably as part of a quid pro quo with Putin for helping him win the election.
• It’s cognitive decline. He has no idea what’s going on anymore. Maybe he even thinks he’s doing something that benefits someone here. Who fucking knows

Whatever the situation, it’s increasingly dangerous to have him as president, and the damage he’s dealing is going to outlast his presidency.

Yeah, that’s completely reasonable. Or mandate reductions on a fixed schedule, e.g. 50% of today’s numbers in 3 years, 0% in 6.
