Recently finished another playthrough of Half-Life 2, and now I’m back on Hades (not 2, waiting for that to go on sale). I’ve just had the first successful run but I’ve got a long way to go before I’m up to the same point I was at on the Xbox.

Bit late with a reply but I bought one with this use case in mind, thinking it could be a cost effective family PC, but immediately fell foul of the lack of proper user switching. You can sign in to different Steam profiles but on the desktop everything runs under a single predefined user with admin rights. Fine for a single person but no good for a family needing multiple distinct user profiles and access controls.

I’ve installed Windows as a dual boot setup but it makes the whole thing much more of a faff, so it doesn’t get used. It’s back to being exclusively a handheld gaming machine.

I tried so hard to make that combo work for me, but ended up back with the sticks. Maybe I need to try something other than Half-Life 2.

Conversely I bought a Steam Deck specifically because of the trackpads but I find I only ever use them on the rare occasion that I need to go to desktop mode. I love my Deck but I’ve discovered that could easily live without the trackpads if they weren’t there.

Good point. I was going to say that Valve could voluntarily offer a better warranty but isn’t the standard in the US something like 90 days? Insanity.

Still, they could choose to match globally what they have to offer here, which is 2 years.

I’m sorry that you’re getting less than sympathetic replies here. I don’t know what the original was since you’ve edited the post and I don’t have anything constructive to add as I assume you’re in the US, but in the EU/UK goods have to last “a reasonable amount of time” regardless of the warranty term.

Some cheap plastic tat might reasonably be expected to last a few months, a washing machine maybe 10 years provided it’s not misused. The further out you get from the warranty period, the more the onus is on the customer to prove it’s a manufacturing defect, and the less you can expect in monetary compensation.

For a high value item like a computer, TV, or the Steam Deck no reasonable person would consider it a good run, shrug their shoulders, and rush out to buy a new one when it unceremoniously died 4 months outside of the warranty period. If that happened to me in the UK I’d be throwing the consumer rights book at them.

Sorry, I know none of that helps if you’re not in the EU/UK, but contrary to what other are saying I don’t think you’re being unreasonable in complaining at all.

I bought Mad Max because I originally played it when it was on Game Pass years ago and would like to do another run.

For the Deck specifically I got Art of Rally, Rogue Legacy 2, and Deep Rock Survivor. I’ve been playing a lot of Deep Rock Survivor.

Yeah same. I played through the whole thing in co-op and had a blast.

Funny story: I started playing this on the PlayStation back in the day, a couple of years after it had come out and cemented its reputation. I did the intro mission in the reactor and then all of the characters were stood in a room doing exposition and what not. I was quite enjoying it.

Then the doorbell rang. I must’ve only been gone for a couple of minutes but when I got back everyone had vanished and I had no idea where they’d gone or what I was supposed to be doing.

Rather than replaying that first 30 minutes I just turned it off and never played it again. Truly the best of times.

Grabbed one of these on Thursday and it’s arriving tomorrow. Just ever O slightly excited.
