Steam also supports local file transfers for game downloads. Like if your PC has a game downloaded and you start to download it on your Deck, the Deck will ask if you want to download it directly from your PC. It means your download speed is primarily limited by your LAN and PC hardware, (which is probably at least gigabit these days), instead of whatever arbitrary speed cap your ISP has implemented.

But technically speaking, carrying an SD card across the house would likely have higher data speeds. The latency sucks, but the bandwidth is only limited by the size of the card and how quickly you’re able to walk across the house. Hell, if you have a stack of large hard drives and it only takes you a few seconds to walk across a small living area, your total measured bandwidth could be measured in tens of terabytes per second. There’s an old joke that a carrier pigeon flying across town with a stack of SD cards would have higher bandwidth than any modern network.

The main problem I ran into was when they were playing and I wanted to play online on my pc I had to ask them to go into offline mode.

You should really just set up family sharing on your Deck, because it solves this problem. They can play your game on their account, which means you’re free to play other games online.

I mean, Valve is wildly profitable. On a profit-per-employee basis, they beat out virtually every other company in existence, at a staggering $3.5M in profit earned per employee. The Steam Store is a money-printing machine, and takes very little in upkeep/support staff to stay profitable.

The Steam Deck was never a massive profit-seeking venture for them; It was a way to divest from Microsoft, (who had been rumbling about going the way of Google/Apple and forcing everyone to use their proprietary store, then skimming a portion of all sales made on said store), and to be able to bring the Steam storefront to people who otherwise wouldn’t be using Steam.

The only reason Microsoft backed off of their Microsoft Store idea was because Apple and Google got slapped in the EU, and forced to allow third-party app stores. And by that point, the Steam Deck was already in production, so there wasn’t much point in canceling it. Especially since, as I mentioned earlier, it expands the Steam Store’s reach, which is their real end goal.

Yup, they’ve straight up said that they’re not interested in iterative upgrades. They said they’d only consider a Deck 2 when the hardware was actually in a place that it would be a meaningful upgrade.

In the meantime, they’re focused on getting devs to actually optimize their games for the SD’s (admittedly aging) hardware. Basically, forcing devs to actually plan for Steam Deck support, instead of just shipping an unoptimized piece of junk out the door and blaming hardware limitations when nothing except the newest cards can play it. There are plenty of games that look gorgeous on the Deck, so we know it’s 100% possible to do so.

I’d argue that specificity is crucial here. “Kill” could be any number of methods, many of them relatively quick or accidental. Maybe he was shot in the head or hit by a car and killed instantly. But “beaten to death” is a pretty gruesome way to go out by most standards, and it isn’t something that just happens by accident. It makes it clear that he didn’t just have an accident; it was an intentional act, committed by people with blood literally on their hands.

Slap a ferrite bead on the cable. It will likely solve the interference issue, and they’re super cheap. You can get a variety pack for like $10 on amazon. They’re handy to have on hand, because an unbelievable amount of consumer-grade electronics are just fucking rawdogging the EM spectrum with unshielded cables and hoping for the best.

You can also try a quick and dirty fix, by slapping a ferrite bead on the HDMI cable. That’s an old trick from the analog world. Depending on how it is picking up interference, this may easily fix it without needing to rebuild your entire setup. Worst case scenario, you’re only out like 10 cents for the bead.

I have a Samsers brand just like this in my gig bag, and I love it. The hot-swapping between devices is nice, cuz it also pairs with my iPad. So I can have both paired, then swap back and forth as needed.

Durable reusable utensils are wayyyy cheaper in the long run than disposable.

For real, I could go get a basic stamped set of metal utensils from Walmart for less than 50¢ each. They would look like cheap diner utensils, but I’d never need to spend that money again. And besides, if I’m using plastic utensils, I’m probably not worried about my stuff looking like it came from a diner. Instead of spending $10 on a pack of single use plastic utensils, I could get a full set of silverware.

While I agree, this is orthodoxy we’re talking about. I can almost guarantee that the mother and daughters are the ones who default to doing all the housework and homemaking. Orthodox Judaism doesn’t enforce straight up tradwife roles, but it often sits across the table and swaps notes.

I mostly use them for mode shifts. For instance, shifting to emulated mouse when holding R4, so I can use desktop stuff easier.

The issue is that the back paddles weren’t unique buttons. You could configure them to press existing buttons, (like telling it to press A when you hit the right paddle,) but they weren’t listed as individual inputs. Now they are, so you can actually map unique actions to L4, R4, etc… This is particularly important for games that have a lot of unique inputs. Plenty of games are optimized for controller, but lots still rely on having more buttons (on a keyboard) than what a traditional controller has.

Apple Maps has had its share of mishaps too. There was one instance where someone was hosting a party at a farmhouse, and everyone who used Apple Maps to navigate to the address ended up on an airport runway.

IIRC, this was shortly after their big breakup with Google Maps, so Apple fell back to using outdated maps.
