Still needs shipping and the US prices given are usually without VAT, which means another ~20% on top.

Probably 120€ if you add shipping from the US and VAT to it. The weak US$ helps a bit so maybe 110€.
Given the memory optimization mentioned in the text, it looks a bit like there will be a 8GB ram version of the Steam Frame. Makes sense really, as it will make it significantly cheaper and for people mostly using it to stream from their main PC it shouldn’t matter much.

No, but I am looking forward to try Lepton on my Linux phone.

Well, Im a sorry if I offended you, but some of the ways the article is formulated sound a lot like someone working of an AI generated transcript of an interview.

Is that “article” an AI written “summary” of a chat log? Would be quicker to just read the chat…
Yeah, but it doesn’t answer my specific questions regarding OpenGL games on OpenGL ES only hardware, which is a common issue on ARM boards.
So Fex is passing through OpenGL calls as well, but most ARM gpus only support OpenGL ES, so I wonder if there is another layer for that, like Zink or so. Has anyone here better insight into that?

Sub 1000€, so probably 999€.
This kind of video content is apparently not popular here 😅

If would need to be patched in on Linux kernel level, which is annoying to say the least.

When devs switch their development PCs to ARM, you will also start seeing ARM native versions. It is the same with Linux and Proton.

Given that they did have a beta for Steam on x86 Chromebooks, and Google seems hellbend to replace ChromeOS with an modified version of Android (“AluminiumOS”) these days, it seems likely that Valve will also consider a release for that. I wouldn’t expect them to make an official release for phones though.

After finishing to read the interview it does indeed sound different, but it is odd that this isn’t open-source somewhere like Proton and Fex always were.

I guess that is a streamlined version of Waydroid?

They didn’t really have a choice for the Frame, due to the inside-out tracking features requiring image processing stuff most easily available in those Qualcomm chips. But sure, in a few years when there might be a Steam Deck successor, they will probably weight their options also based on how well FEX did on the Frame. The chances will be probably higher if some 3rd party developers port SteamOS to some currently Android based handhelds.

Actually, often the are available, but of such low code quality and depending on various out of tree changes in the Linux kernel that it is easier to rewrite them if you want to get them into mainline Linux.
And RISC-V has more or less the same problem.
Yeah, I don’t really get why people complain about the 8gb VRAM. The GPU isn’t fast enough to push native 4k anyway and at lower resolutions 8gb is sufficient for gaming. I have a similar GPU in my PC and never had any issues with the 8gb in 1080p, and I suspect at 1440p it is also still fine.
Yeah, that’s nice. Effectively this means it is the cheapest in the EU or maybe the UK.
