Banner is a gender-swapped AI image of me. I don’t think it looks much like me, but I liked how it turned out.

The appeal of the Steam Deck for me was the affordability. Glad I got one while that was still a thing. This will easily be well over a thousand dollars.

And altho with you.

That’s what happened with my PS5 controller after my cat knocked it off the sofa and the R2 button stopped working. I opened it up, saw nothing apparently wrong, reseated the tiny ribbon cable, and it worked! I’m not very mechanically inclined, so that was a major win for me.

Yes, universal is also good. I like the PS layout because it uses shapes rather than the same letters in different places, though you of course have to memorize which letters are which buttons.

I’m the opposite, Xbox button labels drive me crazy. I learned the layout on the SNES, so it’s hard for me to adjust. I’ve gotten better since playing more PC games on my Steam Deck since the XBox layout is the default, though I always choose PS button prompts if the game has the option.

It was kind of a pain to find a good controller for PC back in the day. It was nice when standard console controllers just worked with it.

I can use either, but prefer symmetrical given a choice.

What about a PS5 controller?

Why would a single analog stick be relevant in a discussion of whether symmetrical or asymmetrical analog sticks are “regular”?

I’ll just include consoles that came with symmetrical or asymmetrical for simplicity’s sake:
Symmetrical:
PS2: 160 million
PS3: 87 million
PS4: 117 million
PS5: 92 million
Wii U: 14 million
Symmetrical total: 470 million
Asymmetrical:
Xbox: 24 million
Xbox 360: 84 million
Xbox One: 58 million
Xbox Series X: 35 million
Gamecube: 21 million
Switch: 155 million
Switch 2: 17 million
Asymmetrical total: 394 million
More people have played on symmetrical controllers than asymmetrical.

Wii, Wii U, and Steam Deck (soon Steam Controller) did it that way
N64 wasn’t dual analog, so not relevant since it wasn’t symmetrical or asymmetrical.

“Regular” thumbstick layout? PlayStation’s was first.

EDIT: I see you edited your comment to remove “regular”. Thank you! I’ve always been able to use either kind just fine, but I do prefer symmetrical, probably because I play a lot of 2D games and actually use the d-pad.

Marvel Heroes Omega via the Project TAHITI private server. It has a lot of frame drops despite being on the lowest settings, but it’s playable. I’m surprised a game from 2018 runs this rough on the Deck.

Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was a great time! The ending hits you hard in the feels.

These past few weeks I got Switch and 3DS emulation running pretty well, so I’ve been bouncing between various exclusive games on both platforms lately. I just found out this morning that Puzzle Quest got a new release on Steam last September, though, so I’ll probably be playing that for a while as it always sucks me in when I start a playthrough. Planning to get Scott Pilgrim EX soon and play that as well.

Switch or Wii version? The Wii one runs a bit better, but is more of a pain to set up controls. The Switch one is perfectly playable and gyro even works.

the ability to obtain games… lets say from “less trusted sources”
This has been a big reason that I like the Steam Deck that nobody talks about. Which is probably a good thing! It’s also led me to get legit games on Steam I otherwise wouldn’t have.
I don’t know how much info they can get that you don’t choose to share, since you can name the executable and game whatever you want through Steam.
