Why is the US President doing PR for a hostile nation? Why does this come across like cheerleading for said hostile nation? Rhetorical questions of course.

He’s bragging that Russia told him something. He was feeling butthurt that no one told him about Ukraine’s planned drone attack. This is his way of soothing his fragile ego.

Trump and his followers don’t see Russia as a hostile nation. They live in a bubble where everything is the opposite.

I liked when he said something negative about Putin last week, and Russia came out apologizing and explaining it away. Compromat.

The “why” doesn’t even matter at this point. Whether or not he’s actually a Russian asset is inconsequential. All that matters is the fact that he does everything a Russian asset would do.

Who fucking cares at this point? Trump has done so much worse things by now. He can’t legally be president for a third term, so it’s not like it’s gonna impact his re-election. Most of the world already hates the man and think he is vile and disgusting. What is one pee tape going to change.
The pee tape could release today and be barely in the current news cycle. One camp will say “This just confirmed what we already knew”, the other camp will say “Fake news”. And tomorrow it will be forgotten.
No, it has to be something way worse than a simple pee video.

Of course not, something like that takes more than a single signature.
Otherwise all the other stuff like healthcare and gun control would have gone through a long time ago.

It may sound alarmist, but it is fair.
Trump represents the US on the world stage, and arguably, the President has more direct power in influencing international policy than domestic policy.
In some ways, the American people’s democratic election of Trump is a more devastating trespass against foreign nations than it is against their own nation.
- AnarchoDakosaurus@toast.oooEnglish1 year
Considering Panama, Canada, Greenland and Mexico have all become potential invasion targets for the USA in less then 6 months of his presidency i would agree. Silly bastards still don’t understand what they’ve done.
Trump is the death kiss to NATO. Even if Russia looses in Ukraine, Trump has given them gifts they could never have dreamed of.

The issue is that because of nuclear treaties between USA and Russia, Russia is required to park their nuclear bombers out in the open. If USA wants Russia to keep them out in the open, they had to make a good argument.
real_squids@sopuli.xyzEnglish
1 yearAre they? They stopped letting the americans tour their nuke facilities a while ago, basically nullifying that part of the agreement. What’s stopping them from doing the same again?
- theherk@lemmy.worldEnglish1 year
Yeah the treaty history between USA and Russia is complex. Russia stopped participating a few years ago in the recent version of START. Said they’d still maintain warhead numbers though.
- Renohren@lemmy.todayEnglish1 year
Strange, they both signed the same treaties yet the US usualy keeps their nuclear capable planes in hangars. Do you have any références to pertaining treaty articles?
- plyth@feddit.orgEnglish1 year
Like the other comment says, it must be the New START treaty, but I am no expert. It seems like it’s a Russian excuse for their carelessness however some parts of the treaty were respected so I think Putin and Trump had some topics to clarify.
On 21 February 2023, Russia suspended its participation in New START.[8] However, it did not withdraw from the treaty, and clarified that it would continue to abide by the numerical limits in the treaty.
On 2 June 2024, the United States revoked visas of Russian nuclear inspectors, describing this step as a “lawful countermeasure” to Russia’s “ongoing violations” of the treaty.
So some parts of the treaty must have been considered active.
On 1 June 2025, Ukraine claimed to have destroyed more than a dozen nuclear strategic bombers, including two Tu-160, at airfields deep inside Russia with swarms of small drones. The bombers were still parked not in nuclear strike protective bunkers, but in open-air, according to obligations under the New START Treaty with the US.

“We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes…”
Is “docked” the correct term for airplanes parked on the tarmac? Seriously, I don’t know. You could use it for seaplanes moored to a dock, I guess, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.
Delegations sent by Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Istanbul on Monday to discuss how the conflict between their nations might end peacefully…
I’m tired of this being treated like some complex puzzle, where every proposed solution only seems to create more problems. It’s actually very simple. HEY PUTIN: Stop shooting. GTFO of Ukraine. Return the Ukrainian people you’ve kidnapped. It’s just that easy!

It was a common term back during the revolutionary war when the American troops stormed the airports.

Remember the incident at the docks when the revolutionaries threw the T-Mobile imports into the harbour? Talk about high tariffs!
Moose@moose.bestEnglish
1 yearNot that I’ve ever heard of, at least in the area of aviation I deal with. You might ‘dock’ it at an airport with mechanical ramps, but even then you’d usually just say taxi to the ramp or parking.

This reminds me of when they first sent that innocent guy to El Salvador. The dictators of both ES and US were sitting side by side on the Oval Office, being asked by the “media” if they could send the guy back. Each dictator blamed it on the other one - while they were sitting side by side!
All they had to do was say, I’ll send him back if you’ll take him, and the other could say we’ll take him back if you’ll send him, and the guy could have been back with his family in a few hours.
Instead, they both acted like it was totally out of their hands. Do these dipshits actually run their countries, or not?
